The Reminders

The Reminders return to uplift and entertain for a fourth Colorado Gives Day! This rare and remarkable musical duo has an undeniable magical chemistry. The group consists of Brussels-born emcee Big Samir and Queens-born emcee/ vocalist Aja Black. They seamlessly blend razor-sharp rhythms and raw, soulful vocals with reggae-tinged hip-hop beats to highlight their relevant and inspiring messages. The couple shares a partnership in both music and life as Samir and Aja have been married for over a decade.

Jesse Leon

Jesse Leon is a San Diego based bilingual author, consultant, and public speaker with a focus on vulnerable communities’ access to quality mental health care, substance abuse services, and housing. Jesse’s traumatic experiences, chronicled in his memoir, I’m Not Broken, fuel his advocacy and inform the work of his consulting practice. He shares ideas as a lived experience expert on how to ensure survivors move from living in trauma to being triumphant.

Kara Napolitano

Kara Napolitano (she/her) is a human rights advocate and trainer. As LCHT’s Research and Training Manager, she has trained more than 25,000 professionals across Colorado on how to recognize and respond to labor and sex exploitation. Kara works alongside law enforcement, healthcare providers, those working with systems-involved youth and professionals in other intersecting sectors to build collaborations that prevent exploitation, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable in communities across the state.

Ashley Cornelius

Ashley Cornelius (she/her) is the Pikes Peak Region Poet Laureate. She is a nationally recognized and multi-award-winning spoken-word poet, facilitator, cultural worker and keynote speaker. Notably, Ashley has opened up for former U.S. Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo and performed for the Grandmother of Juneteenth, Opal Lee. She is also the Co-Director of Poetry719, a Black-led poetry group lifting the voices of marginalized communities and BIPOC folks through art. Ashley is committed to using poetry as a platform for those who have been historically silenced.

Where do I go?

The Amplify Live Event returns to the historic Tivoli Turnhalle on the Auraria Campus in Downtown Denver. Parking will be available at the Tivoli Garage at 901 Walnut St, Denver, CO 80204. The closest RTD Light Rail stations are Auraria West and Colfax at Auraria. A detailed campus map is available here.

What is Amplify?

Amplify is a multi-week giving campaign supporting LCHT’s work to end exploitation in Colorado. The Amplify Live Event takes place on the biggest day in this campaign— Colorado Gives Day! We’re excited to share about an incredible challenge match of $50,000 from PB and K Family Foundation that you can help unlock!

What about food and drinks?

Glad you asked! This year we’re happy to offer heavy appetizers, beer + wine, and non-alcoholic beverages for all guests. We will have a variety of food choices to accomodate different diets including at least one vegetarian and one gluten-free option. Arrive by 6PM to have time to eat before the program starts!
