Mission statement

Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) is a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth and children through support, advocacy, education, and community organizing.

Brief description of services provided

SPAN services include 24/7 crisis/information line, emergency shelter, transitional services and housing assistance, legal advocacy, trauma counseling, and school and community-based violence prevention education. SPAN has specialized services focused on Latine survivors, LGBTQI survivors, and older survivors of abuse. All services are available in Spanish and English. SPAN primarily serves Boulder and Broomfield counties.

  • Survivors of any abuse eligible. Accepts statewide.
  • Couples: Considered if both individually screen eligible or if both unsafe due to survivor’s abuser.
  • Pets: Emotional Support & Service Animals allowed
  • Vax records required and service training preferred (to ensure not aggressive/threat in communal living environment)
  • Transportation: No. Shelter is on bus route
  • Staff Languages: English, Spanish, French, Japanese

Referrals & Intake

Full most nights – Will share bed availability with advocate

  • Survivor must call for phone screen. Warm handoff ok
    • Must identify need for ADA accom during phone screen
  • 24/7 Intake & Arrival
  • Hotel stay possible IF in imminent danger AND surrounding shelters are full.
Service details (internal only)
  • Type: Confidential Safehouse Stay: 45 days (ext. possible)
  • Space: All rooms shared, up to 3/room ADA: Accessible (notify at intake)
  • Safety: 24/7 on-site staff and monitored cameras, alarms overnight
  • Rules & Reqs: 11pm curfew, exceptions permitted for work; must appear sober to enter shelter Pets: Emotional support & Service animals allowed
  • Services (shelter guests only): on-site medical, VI-SPDAT, Basic Needs (clothing, hygiene)
  • Services available to shelter & non-shelter clients: Intensive CM, Non-clinical counseling, Housing search asst, Financial Asst (rent & utilities, one time to 3 mo asst avail on case-by-case), Legal Services, Address Confidentiality Program, Transitional & Rapid Rehousing
