Mission statement

To strengthen families, educate the community, and provide resources and training needed to save lives and protect victims of domestic violence, their children and all other crime victims.

Brief description of services provided

AVRC is a crisis intervention agency that assists all victims of violent crime. We provide crisis hotline services, safety planning, advocacy, emergency shelter, peer counseling, children and group counseling, legal advocacy, relocation assistance, and financial assistance.

REFFERALS

Walk-in services at 415 Colorado Ave. La Junta & 413 Main St. Ordway (1st & 3rd Wed 9:30a – 4p) – both locations closed daily 12p-1p

  • Phone Screen required for shelter
  • Survivor must call – will not provide bed availability info to Advocate
  • 24/7 Intake & Arrival
  • Usually has shelter availability (rarely full)
  • Outreach to Survivor Available – 24 hour response time

Type: Shelter at Hotel; Stay: 7 days; Space: own hotel room (shared with fam only), some pet-friendly

Safety: room booked under Safehouse name – no ID or CC required; safety plan & daily check-in visits by staff; meals & basic essentials provided

Non-Shelter Services: Case Management; Employment Assistance; Housing Search & Rental asst; Address Confidentiality Enrollment; Financial Assistance;

  • Transportation: Bus passes, relocation assistance, staff rides
  • Mental Health: Individual Peer Counseling, Support Groups, Children’s Counseling Program (curriculum-based), Referrals to Clinical Therapy
  • Legal Assistance: Protection Order asst, court accompaniment, Criminal Justice Advocacy (coordination, accompaniment, help with victim impact statement, etc), Victim Compensation Asst, referrals for legal advice/representation
